AG: I do. I recall a lot of excitement around the office when we finally got that project. As you said, you started the series with scripting, but since I knew the game reasonably well from playing it, I was helping you with research on the overall, labyrinthine plotline of the series. So, while you were going through the actual game for the plot, I was digging in to online resources and strategy guides we had worked on to grasp the basic gist of Metal Gear’s mythology.

CR: This was probably late ’03, maybe early 2004– IDW had been publishing comics for only about two years at the time. Obviously there’s still paperwork and there’re all kinds of negotiations but this is America, that stuff lasts forever. We were talking with a number of different publishers and then all of a sudden we heard from IDW.

BT: Yeah, Wormwood was probably the first thing I ever created, starting as a high-school student doodling in my spare time. He’s changed a lot since then but the basic idea was always there. TA: The Wormwood books are very funny and, now that you say that, I can see that British sense of humor. TA: Well, he wasn’t in a corpse anyhow. How did your education and training impact the development of Wormwood?

reprints from Harvey Comics. I later found out that Zorro was drawn by Alex Toth, and that all the violent sequences in Tracy had been edited out by the Comics Code Authority. DM: Of course. The New York Sunday News had Dick Tracy on the front page of the paper and I always read that even before I turned to the sports pages to see how many home runs Willie Mays had hit the day before.
